20th Century Studios’ ‘Predator: Badlands’ Sets Franchise Opening Weekend Record With $80 Million in Global Ticket Sales
November 9, 2025
Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands set a franchise record with $80 million in opening weekend global ticket sales through Nov. 9, including $40 million across North American screens.
The sci-fi adventure movie, starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, among others, had been projected to generate about $30 million in domestic revenue. The tally bodes well for the November box office following the worst October for exhibitors in 27 years.
The 1987 original Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, tallied $98.3 million in global ticket sales, followed by Predator 2 ($57.1 million) in 1990, Predators ($127.2 million) in 2010, The Predator in 2018 with $160 million, as well as 2022’s Prey and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers in 2025, both of which debuted on Hulu.
The Badlands tally pushed Disney’s 2025 global box office past $4 billion, ahead of the December opening of 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash. The revenue still pales in comparison to pre-pandemic 2019 when Disney movies (excluding Fox) generated a record $11.1 billion in worldwide revenue.
Other new releases included Amazon MGM’s Sarah’s Oil with $4.4 million in ticket sales, followed by Sony Pictures Classics’ post-World War II Nazi trial drama Nuremberg with $4.1 million in revenue.
Meanwhile, Universal/Blumhouse’s Black Phone 2 saw another $5.3 million in fourth-weekend ticket sales, upping the Ethan Hawke-starrer’s North American tally total to 70 million — tops for any Blumhoue release in the past two years.
Sony/Crunchyroll’s anime Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc, produced by MAPPA, upped its worldwide tally to $158 million with $8.1 million globally during the weekend.
The Choral debuted in the United Kingdom with $1.2 million in ticket sales. The film follows a choral society whose male members enlist to fight in World War I, leaving the group with teenage recruits. As they discover the joy of singing together, the young men confront the looming reality of their own conscription.
Crunchyroll/Sony Pictures’ Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Infinity Castle added $1.3 million for the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to $131.2 million through Sunday.
Affirm Films’ Soul on Fire made another $1.3 million during the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to more than $5.5 million through Sunday.
Paramount Pictures’ Regretting You added an estimated $7.12 million domestically and $5.7 million internationally for a $12.8 million worldwide weekend total.
Roofman added an estimated $445,000 domestically and $30,000 in the United Kingdom for a $475,000 total weekend gross.
