‘Mean Girls’ Seeks Repeat Weekend Box Office Win

With the NFL playoffs drawing viewership this weekend, Paramount Pictures’ musical adaptation of Mean Girls is set to repeat its weekend box office win — albeit with fewer ticket sales. The reboot of the 2004 hit starring Lindsay Lohan is projected to generate $12.5 million in revenue (about 60% below last weekend’s $32 million debut), enough to hold off Amazon MGM Studios’ Jason Statham-starrer The Beekeeper with $7.9 million in estimated ticket sales, and Warner Bros. Pictures’ enduring Wonka with $6 million in projected sales, according to new data from Box Office Pro.

Wonka is approaching $187 million in domestic revenue and $520 million worldwide.

Other box office returnees include Columbia Pictures’ adult comedy Anyone But You (projected $5 million), and Universal Pictures’ animation release Migration (projected $4.9 million).

The lone new release is Bleeker Street’s sci-fi thriller I.S.S. with $3.3 million in projected ticket sales.
