‘Wicked’ Flies to Top of Disc Sales Charts
February 18, 2025
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Wicked debuted at No. 1 on the Circana VideoScan chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart the week ended Feb. 8.
Based on the first half of the hit Broadway musical of the same name, the film serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz about the rise to power of Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. It earned $472.5 million at the domestic box office.
HD formats accounted for 69% of first-week Wicked unit sales, with 36% from regular Blu-ray and 33% from 4K Ultra HD disc. It also easily topped the dedicated 4K disc chart.
The top seller the previous two weeks, Sony Pictures’ Venom: The Last Dance, dropped to No. 2 on both the overall and Blu-ray disc sales charts. In its third week, it sold fewer than 13% as many copies as the week’s top seller, and was No. 4 on the 4K chart.
Mubi’s The Substance, the Oscar hopeful starring Demi Moore as an aging star who uses a drug to create a younger version of herself, was No. 3 on all three charts.
