‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Was No. 1 Disc Seller in September; ‘Wicked’ Remains 2025’s Top Title

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World Rebirth was No. 1 on the top 10 list of physical-media sales for September 2025, according to Circana’s VideoScan tracking service that compiles DVD and Blu-ray Disc transactions.

The seventh film in the “Jurassic” franchise follows a team of mercenaries hired by a medical research company to retrieve DNA from rare dinosaurs living on a tropical island that once housed a research facility that conducted genetic experiments. It earned $339.6 million at the domestic box office and was released on disc Sept. 9, topping the weekly sales chart its first two weeks.

No. 2 in September was DC Studios’ Superman reboot released on disc Sept. 23 by Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. From director James Gunn, the creative boss of DC Studios, the new Superman finds the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) facing international controversy after intervening in a foreign war, while Lex Luthor (Nicholas Holt) reveals a dangerous secret about Superman’s home planet of Krypton. It earned $354 million at the domestic box office. It also topped the sales charts its first two weeks on shelves, but only about the first week of its sales would apply to September.

The month’s No. 3 seller was Lionsgate’s Ballerina: From the World of John Wick, also released on disc Sept. 9.  The spinoff of the “John Wick” films follows a newly trained assassin (Ana de Armas) who seeks revenge for her father’s death. It earned $58 million at the domestic box office.

No. 4 in September was Disney’s’ live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. The film, a reimagining of the 2002 animated classic of the same name, tells the story of a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo (Sydney Elizebeth Agudong) who befriends a runaway alien named Stitch, who is being pursued by alien agents and the CIA. It had been No. 5 in August.

The top seller from August, Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake, was No. 5 in September. The film centers on the dragon-fighting Vikings of the island of Berk, where Hiccup (Mason Thames), the son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), hopes to prove himself as a great warrior, but secretly befriends a dragon named Toothless who is injured in an attack.

No. 6 was Sony Pictures’ 28 Years Later, another Sept. 23 disc release. The sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s 28 Weeks Later follows a group of rage virus survivors living on an island, as they discover a new mutation on the mainland. It earned $70.4 million at the domestic box office. 

The No. 7 seller for September was Sony Pictures’ Karate Kid: Legends. The sequel to the 2010 Karate Kid remake unites that film with the classic franchise films, as kung fu master Han recruits original karate kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to train his nephew for a tournament in New York. It had been No. 6 in August.

No. 8 was another newcomer, Universal’s M3GAN 2.0. The film follows a rogue military robot based on the design of the original M3GAN. The film earned $24.1 million from U.S. theaters. It was released on disc Sept. 23.

No. 9 was Disney’s Elio. The Pixar animated film follows a UFO-obsessed kids who is contacted by aliens. It earned $73 million at the domestic box office and was released on disc Sept. 9.

The month’s No. 10 seller was Paramount’s 1923: A Yellowstone Origin Story — Season Two. The prequel series stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren and was No. 4 in August.

On the year-to-date disc sales chart, the top two titles remained the same, with Universal’s Wicked remaining in the top spot, followed by Sony Pictures’ Venom: The Last Dance at No. 2.

Jurassic World Rebirth entered the chart at No. 3, while Disney-owned Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* remained No. 4. That pushed Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World down two spots to No. 5.

Universal’s Nosferatu remained No. 6, while Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 slid two spots to No. 7 and Disney’s Moana 2 dropped a spot to No. 8. Warner’s A Minecraft Movie stayed No. 9, and How to Train Your Dragon moved into the top 10 at No. 10, up two spots from the prior month.

Pushed off the top 10 were Yellowstone: Season 5, Part 2 and Gladiator II, both from Paramount,. 

According to Circana, the September 2025 Top 10 by units sold were:
