February 19, 2025
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Venom: The Last Dance was No. 1 on the top 10 list of physical-media sales for January 2025, according to Circana’s VideoScan tracking service that compiles DVD and Blu-ray transactions.
The third “Venom” film, which finds Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the Venom symbiote on the run from both the military and an alien hunter, was released on disc Jan. 21 and topped the weekly disc sales charts its first two weeks on shelves.
The month’s No. 2 seller was another Jan. 21 release, Mubi’s The Substance. The film, starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, follows a fading celebrity who, after being fired by her producer due to her age, uses a black market drug that creates a much younger version of herself with unexpected side effects.
Yet another Jan. 21 release, Paramount’s Smile 2, took the No. 4 spot in January. Writer-director Parker Finn’s follow up to 2022’s Smile focuses on global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), who begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.
No. 3 in January was Universal’s The Wild Robot, which was No. 2 in December. Released on disc Dec. 3, the animated film climbed to the top of the weekly sales charts the first two weeks of January. The adaptation of the best-selling book of the same name follows a robot that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and starts building relationships with the animals on the island.
Cineverse’s Terrifier 3, released Dec. 17 on disc, was No. 5 during the month, retaining its position from December. The third installment in the “Terrifier” horror franchise finds Art the Clown returning to turn Christmas into a nightmare for a pair of siblings.

With Wicked a hit in theaters and on the Awards circuit, 1939’s The Wizard of Oz was the No. 9 seller in January. An 85th anniversary 4K boxed set of the film was released in November by Warner.
Awards season may also have given a boost to Warner’s Dune: Part Two, released on disc back in May 2024.
