DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Dog Man’ Doesn’t Disappoint With $36 Million Box Office Debut

Universal Pictures/DreamWorks Animation’s Dog Man, starring Pete Davidson, surpassed expectations, selling an estimated $36 million in North American tickets for the weekend through Feb. 2.

The spin-off of 2017’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie easily topped Warner Bros. Pictures/New Line’s Companion, starring Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets”) and Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), which opened with a projected $9.5 million.

Rounding out the weekend podium was Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King with $6.6 million in additional ticket sales, upping its tally to $230 million domestic and $653 million globally.

Sony/TriStar Pictures’ One of Them Days made a projected $6 million for the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to $34.5 million through Sunday.

Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is available across digital retail platforms, grossed an additional estimated $3.2 million across 2,665 screens from Jan. 31 through Sunday.

Lionsgate’s Flight Risk and Den of Thieves 2: Pantera added $5.6 million and $1.6 million in revenue, respectively.
