Lionsgate Q1 Home Entertainment Revenue Drops 25%

Lionsgate Aug. 8 reported first quarter (ended June 30) home entertainment revenue of $149.3 million, which was down almost 25% from revenue of $200 million in the previous-year period.

Lionsgate is one of the largest independent distributors of original and third-party catalog movie and TV shows across digital and physical channels.

Among the top-selling original titles in the quarter was horror movie Imaginary, which tallied about $40 million at the box office.

Sales of packaged-media movies plummeted 65% to $9.2 million, from $25.9 million in the prior year period. Digital revenue fell almost 20% to $140.1 million ,from $174.1 million a year ago.

The lone bright spot was sales of TV shows, which increased 62% to $19.8 million, from $12.2 million. Disc sales reached $900,000, from $400,000, while TVOD revenue surged 60% to $18.9 million, from $11.8 million.
