‘Moneyball’ Arrives on 4K Blu-ray April 28 for 15th Anniversary

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release 2011’s Moneyball on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc for the first time April 28 to mark the sports drama’s 15th anniversary.

Based on a true story, the film stars Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, the general manager of Major League Baseball’s Oakland A’s, who in 2002 resorts to unconventional strategies to assemble a winning team despite lacking the budget of other notable franchises. With the help of a Yale-trained economist (Jonah Hill), Beane sets out to defy the conventional wisdom employed by his team’s scouts and field manager (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who are set in the traditional way of building a ballclub.

Directed by Bennett Miller, the film was written by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Michael Lewis. It earned $113.7 million at the global box office, $75.6 million domestically.

The single-disc 4K edition includes an ultra-high-definition transfer of the film approved by Miller with standard dynamic range only and English 5.1 audio.

Bonus materials include deleted scenes, a blooper with Pitt and Hill, the film’s theatrical trailer, and the featurettes “Moneyball: Playing the Game,” “Billy Beane: Re-Inventing the Game,” “Drafting the Team” and “Adapting Moneyball.”

‘The Choral’ Available on Premium Digital Now, on Disc March 17

The Sony Pictures Classics drama The Choral, starring Ralph Fiennes, is available now for premium digital rental and sale, and will be released on Blu-ray Disc and DVD March 17 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

In the film, as WWI rages on, the choral society in a small English town has lost most of its men to the army. The choral’s committee is determined to press ahead with new recruits. They engage a driven new chorus master, Dr. Henry Guthrie — recently returned from a career in Germany. As conscription papers start to arrive, the community discovers that the best response to the war is to make music together.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the film also stars Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Robert Emms and Simon Russell Beale.

‘Da Vinci Code’ 20th Anniversary 4K Steelbook Arriving May 19

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will mark the 20th anniversary of director Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code with a Steelbook edition of the film on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc.

Based on the best-selling 2003 novel by Dan Brown, the thriller stars Tom Hanks as symbologist Robert Langdon, who is tasked with solving a bizarre murder mystery involving a conspiracy about the secret history of Jesus Christ and clues hidden in the artwork of Leonardo da Vinci. The cast also includes Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow with Paul Bettany and Jean Reno.

The film earned more than $801.3 million at the global box office during its 2006 theatrical run.

The three-disc limited-edition Steelbook includes both the 148-minute theatrical version of the film and the 174-minute extended cut in 4K with Dolby Vision, English Dolby Atmos and English 5.1 audio.

The theatrical version 4K disc includes a “Launching a Legacy” featurette and the film’s teaser and theatrical trailers. The extended version 4K disc includes commentary from Howard on select scenes.

The third disc is a regular Blu-ray Disc with additional bonus materials including 17 production featurettes.

‘Anaconda’ Available Now via Premium Digital, on Disc March 17

The comedic Anaconda remake is available now for premium digital rental and sale, and will be released on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and as a 4K Ultra HD combo pack March 17 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The film has earned $128.2 million at the global box office.

In the film, Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation.

Special features include outtakes and bloopers, deleted and extended scenes, and the featurettes “A Ride Into Chaos with Jack & Paul,” “Friends in the Wild: The Cast,” “The Snake Charmer: Tom Gormican” and “Reinventing the Legend: Anaconda.”

Season 2 of ‘For All Mankind’ Gets March 17 Blu-ray Disc Release from Sony Pictures

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release season two of the alternate history space race drama “For All Mankind” on Blu-ray Disc March 17, ahead of the show’s season five debut on Apple TV.

The series depicts a “what if” scenario of a world in which the Soviet Union won the race to land a man on the moon, with the United States expanding the scope of space exploration in the aftermath. Season one, set during the late 1960s and early 1970s, saw the establishment of bases on the moon. Season two, set in the 1980s, followed with lunar colonies.

The four-disc Sony Pictures release has the series’ 10 episodes presented in HD across four discs, with 5.1 English audio on each episode. Extras include a commentary on episode 10 by the creators.

The fifth season debuts March 27 on Apple TV.

‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6 DVD, Complete-Series Blu-ray Available March 3

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release Cobra Kai: The Complete Series on Blu-ray Disc March 3. A standalone DVD of just the sixth and final season also will be available.

The 13-disc complete-series set will include all 65 episodes from the 2018-25 series that serves as a sequel to the “Karate Kid” movies of the 1980s, as former karate champion Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) seeks to regain his former glory by restarting the famed Cobra Kai dojo, much to the chagrin of his longtime rival Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). As old enemies re-emerge, Johnny and Daniel must put aside their differences to guide a new generation of karate students.

The cast also includes Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Peyton List, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni, DeCenzo, Dallas Dupree Young, Vanessa Rubio, Thomas Ian Griffith and Martin Kove.

The Blu-ray features the episodes in high-definition with 5.1 English audio.

All seasons include deleted scenes, while seasons two through six also include a blooper reel. The set includes eight featurettes — two with season one, five with season two, and one with season four. Season one also features two musical performances.

Bonus materials exclusive to the Blu-ray set include a commentary on the first and last episodes with show creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.

‘Sisu: Road to Revenge’ Available Digitally Dec. 16, on Disc Feb. 17

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the sequel Sisu: Road to Revenge for digital sale and rental starting Dec. 16, followed by DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD disc Feb. 17.

The follow-up to the 2022 Finnish sleeper hit Sisu finds former commando Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila), two years after his first rampage against the Nazis, returning to the house where his family was brutally murdered during the World War II. He dismantles it and loads it onto a truck, determined to rebuild it somewhere safe in their honor. However, his plans are interrupted by the return of the Soviet officer (Stephen Lang) who killed his family, who now commands a squadron of agents determined to eliminate Aatami once and for all.

Written and directed by Jalmari Helander, Sisu: Road to Revenge earned $9.2 million at the global box office.

Bonus materials with the home entertainment editions include an alternate ending and the featurette “Upping the Ante.”

The Blu-ray and 4K disc versions also include a code redeemable for a digital copy of the film. The one-disc 4K version will be available in Steelbook packaging.

‘Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc’ Available Through Digital Retail Platforms Dec. 9

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the anime film Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc for home viewing exclusively through digital retail platforms beginning Dec. 9.

A follow up to the “Chainsaw Man” anime series, which itself is based on the popular manga of the same name, the film takes place amid a brutal war between devils and hunters, when another battle starts in the heart of the devil hunter Denji (aka Chainsaw Man) when he meets a mysterious girl named Reze. Facing secret enemies and fighting for his humanity, Denji revs up for his deadliest battle yet.

The home release version of the film will be available in both a Japanese version with subtitles and an English-dubbed version.

The film earned $43.7 million at the domestic box office, $150.1 million globally.

Faith-Based Feature ‘Soul on Fire’ Available Digitally, on DVD Dec. 9

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s faith-based feature Soul on Fire is available now for digital purchase and rental, and will be released on DVD Dec. 9.

The family-friendly story stars Joel Courtney, John Corbett, Stephanie Szostak, Masey McLain, DeVon Franklin and Academy Award winner William H. Macy.

Directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer, Reagan), Soul on Fire shares the remarkable true journey of John O’Leary, who survived a near-fatal fire at just 9 years old and grew into a voice of hope and purpose for millions — anchored by faith, strengthened by family, and shaped by the unexpected kindness of baseball legend Jack Buck.

Ethan Hawke Drama ‘Blue Moon’ Available on Premium Digital

The psychological drama Blue Moon is available for premium digital rental and sale from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

In the film, directed by Richard Linklater, on the evening of March 31, 1943, legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart (Ethan Hawke) confronts his shattered self-confidence in Sardi’s bar as his former collaborator Richard Rodgers celebrates the opening night of his ground-breaking hit musical Oklahoma!

The film also stars Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale and Andrew Scott.
