Arrow Video Releasing ‘Westworld’ on 4K Ultra HD Disc Feb. 24

Arrow Video will release the 1973 sci-fi Western Westworld on 4K Ultra HD disc for the first time Feb. 24. The limited edition featuring a new 4K restoration of the film and newly commissioned extras will also be available on regular Blu-ray Disc.

The film from writer-director Michael Crichton takes place at the futuristic Delos resort, which allows guests to fully experience life in medieval times, the Roman era, and the American West. The employees in the park are androids, designed to be fully indulged by the guests. The android locals won’t shoot back in a duel or resist being taken to bed. This proves useful as Peter Martin (Richard Benjamin) and John Blane (James Brolin) repeatedly fire their six-shooters at The Gunslinger (Yul Brynner) to sharpen their showdown skills. It’s the holiday of a lifetime until something goes wrong with the park’s computer programming and the androids begin attacking the guests.

The limited-edition 4K edition presents the film with HDR-compatible Dolby Vision, the original restored lossless four-channel stereo, 2.0 stereo, and 1.0 mono audio options, and an optional remixed 5.1 DTS-HD master surround audio.

Bonus materials include a new audio commentary; a newly filmed conversation between Benjamin and producer/screenwriter Larry Karaszewski; new video interviews with Brolin and producer Paul N. Lazarus III; a new video appreciation; an archival behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film; the pilot episode of the television series “Beyond Westworld”; the film’s theatrical trailer; an image gallery; a perfect bound booklet; a double-sided fold-out poster; and six postcard-sized art cards.
