Merchandising: Lionsgate Limited Taking Orders for Exclusive 4K ‘Dogma’ Steelbook
November 19, 2025
Filmmaker Kevin Smith’s fourth film, the 1999 religious satire Dogma, is set to make its debut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Dec. 9 from Lionsgate. In addition to a regular release in standard packaging, the studio’s Lionsgate Limited online store is offering the film as an exclusive Steelbook set.
Both the regular and Steelbook releases are combo packs containing the film on 4K disc, regular Blu-ray Disc and a redeemable code for a digital copy.
The film was previously released on Blu-ray Disc in 2008 by Sony Pictures, but rights issues held up subsequent home entertainment releases, leading to that earlier Blu-ray fetching some insane prices on the secondary market. Smith managed to reacquire the film rights last year, and after a series of theatrical screenings licensed U.S. home entertainment rights to Lionsgate. (Asking prices for the earlier Sony release have come down a bit with Lionsgate’s imminent re-release of the film.)
The digital release of the film will also mark the first time it will be available from online retailers.
Dogma stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two disgraced angels who seek to return to Heaven by exploiting a loophole in Catholic Church doctrine. However, since escaping their exile would negate God’s infallibility and cause the end of existence, the task of stopping them falls upon an unsuspecting Wisconsin woman named Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) with a secret divine lineage. Joining her on the quest are a ragtag team of religious figures, including, somehow, Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith). The cast also includes Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Jason Lee and George Carlin.
New bonus materials available on both the 4K and Blu-ray discs include an introduction by Smith and a 25th anniversary trailer, while new extras exclusive to the 4K edition include the featurettes “Revelations: Making Dogma,” “Establishing Shot With Robert Yeoman,” “More Sermons From the Mount” and a “Dogma Q&A.“
Legacy extras include a commentary with Smith, Affleck, Lee, producer Scott Mosier and collaborator Vincent Pereira (with optional “Video Hijinks” on the Blu-ray only); a technical commentary with Smith, Mosier and Pereira; deleted scenes with intros; outtakes; a commercial for the Jay and Silent Bob Secret Stash comic book store; the 2001 documentary “Judge Not: In Defense of Dogma“; storyboards; the original PSP introduction by Smith; the film’s ShoWest convention sizzle reel; the Easter Eggs “How Jay Thinks Kevin Directs” and “How Kevin Directs”; My Opinion by Mrs. Harriet Wise; the film’s original theatrical trailer, the U.K. teaser trailer, and TV spots.
The Lionsgate Limited exclusive Steelbook includes cover art by BOND and the 25th anniversary booklet Dogma: Revelations of the Easily Offended.
The Lionsgate Limited Steelbook edition is listed at $39.99 (marked down from $49.99), compared with the standard edition being listed for $29.96 at Amazon (marked down from $42.99).
