‘Wonka’ Tops Fourth Consecutive Weekend Box Office With $14.4 Million

Warner Bros. Pictures’ prequel Wonka held off horror newcomer Night Swim (Universal/Blumhouse) with an estimated $14.4 million in ticket sales for its fourth-consecutive weekend box office No. 1 through Jan. 7. Starring Timothée Chalamet as the eccentric chocolatier in his younger days, the movie has topped $164 million at the North American box office, and more than $410 million globally.
Night Swim, from Saw director James Wan, and co-starring Kerry Condon and Wyatt Russell, generated $12 million.
Rounding out the weekend box office: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with $10.6 million in ticket sales, upping the DC Extended Universe superhero’s tally past $100 million since after three weekends.
Just behind at No. 4, Universal/Illumination’s animated Migration with $10.2 million in ticket sales, upping its three weekend total at just under $78 million.
Columbia Pictures’ comedy Anyone But You made $3.2 million on Friday, $4 million on Saturday, with the studio projecting $2.2 million on Sunday across 3,055 screens. The Sony studio is projecting a weekend total of $9.5 million, bringing its total domestic gross to $43.714 million through Sunday heading into the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.
Paramount Pictures’ Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, which is streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S., added $600,000 in ticket sales across 19 markets. The movie’s international tally now stands at $137 million and $202.2 million globally.
