Netflix Bringing ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Back to Movie Theaters Over Halloween
October 16, 2025
Netflix is returning its most-streamed feature film, KPop Demon Hunters, to movie theaters for a second exclusive screening of a sing-along version Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 at select AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters.
The animated original film, which is currently streaming on Netflix, is produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation. It’s directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, and features a script by Danya Jimenez, Hannah McMechan, Kang, and Appelhans. The story comes from Kang.
The movie has been streamed more than 325 million times globally. The sing-along version topped the box office over three days through Aug. 24, generating an estimated $18 million in ticket sales.
The screenings also come as Netflix is marketing movie-themed Halloween costumes at Spirit Halloween stores.
The new theatrical release marks an more congenial relationship between Netflix, which has been loathe to release its movies in the legacy theatrical window, and exhibitors reluctant to screen titles concurrently streaming on the largest SVOD platform in the world.
“While the two companies have not had a commercial relationship in recent years, both Netflix and AMC are intrigued by the mutually beneficial opportunities that could arise from this and future collaboration,” AMC Theatres said in a statement. “Discussions are underway as to what that may entail, but no further details are being shared at this time.”
