Nielsen: Animated ‘Bluey’ Episodes Topped Weekly Household TV Streaming Through Feb. 18
March 14, 2024
Classic episodes of “Bluey” streaming on Disney+ and “Young Sheldon” on Max/Netflix (at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, for the week) each generated more than 1 billion weekly minutes consumed through Feb. 18, according to new data from Nielsen.
“Bluey” gained slightly from last week to just under 1.2 billion minutes viewed, as with 10 episodes released Jan. 12, the series continued to resonate with viewers ages 2-11 (which account for half of its audience).
On the other hand, “Young Sheldon” dropped viewership by 25% to 1 billion viewing minutes.
Netflix released the first six episodes of season six of “Love Is Blind” on Valentine’s Day. The series drove 907 million viewing minutes to take No. 3 overall, and No. 1 among original programs. Nielsen said 78% of the reality dating show’s viewers were ages 18-49, and 75% were female.
“True Detective: Night Country” (Max) continued to show its ability to hold an audience with the final episode in the season streaming Feb. 18 at the end of the reporting period. The Jodie Foster-starring series notched 773 billion viewing minutes on Max, and took the No. 5 spot on the overall chart. Due to the Sunday evening release schedule, and the Nielsen rankings based on a Monday-through-Sunday week, episode five (the previous week’s episode) was the most viewed for the week with 195 million viewing minutes.
It didn’t make the top 10 charts during its first week of availability on Netflix, but “Monk” (also on Peacock and Prime Video) jumped onto the overall chart next to fellow former USA Network titles that have earned new succuss, posting 637 million viewing minutes for No. 8 overall — behind “Suits” (682 million) and ahead of “Royal Pains” (617 million). Based on its deep library (123 episodes), “Monk” is likely to become a familiar fixture in the top 10 over the coming weeks.
Before it could call itself an Oscar Best Picture winner, Peacock’s Oppenheimer premiered on Peacock on Feb. 16 and rounded out the overall chart and topped the movie chart with 612 million viewing minutes. Oppenheimer’s three-hour duration gives it some advantage among other titles on the movie chart by generating more viewing minutes. By comparison, Netflix’s Lover, Stalker, Killer has a duration of 90 minutes, and totaled 470 million viewing minutes in the interval.
Apple TV+ entered the original chart with the World War II series “Masters of the Air” clocking in at 243 million minutes across five episodes. The Austin Butler-starrer just missed the originals chart the previous week with 209 million minutes, but the new episode for the week ended Feb. 18 tallied the most weekly viewing minutes for a single episode for the show to date, with 184 million for that episode alone.
