Nielsen Ups Super Bowl LIX TV Viewership to 127.7 Million

An estimated 127.7 million viewers tuned in for Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, according to Nielsen, making it the largest audience for a Super Bowl and for a single-network telecast in TV history.

The tally is up from the 126 million estimate reported by Fox Corp., when including Fox Sports, Fox Deportes, Telemundo and streamed on Tubi and NFL+ from approximately 6:42 p.m. ET to 10:16 p.m. ET.

Tubi was the first streaming service, including FAST, to live-stream the Super Bowl.

The matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs drew a combined average household rating of 41.7, and combined household share of 83. The peak average audience hit 137.7 million viewers from 8 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. ET in the second quarter. In total, year-over-year viewership was up 3.2% from the previous record-setting audience that watched Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.

Audience estimates are inclusive of out-of-home, and digital viewing (mobile, PC, MVPD app, vMVPD), in addition to streaming on Tubi and digital properties of Fox Sports and the NFL, including NFL+. Earlier this month, Nielsen announced its OOH measurement now covers 100% of the U.S. contiguous television population.

The first Super Bowl to include OOH viewing was SB LV. Nielsen began including OOH viewing into its National TV measurement in September 2020. As of Feb. 2025, Nielsen’s OOH measurement covers 100% of the U.S. contiguous television population.

Super Bowl XLVIII included the first Spanish-language broadcast for a Super Bowl. Super Bowl I (Jan. 15, 1967) aired on both CBS and NBC.
