Fox Hires Ex-Venu Sports CEO Peter Distad to Run Growing Direct-to-Consumer Streaming Biz
February 27, 2025
Fox Corp. has hired Peter Distad, former CEO of the short-lived Venu Sports app joint venture, as CEO of its burgeoning direct-to-consumer business.
Distad, who reports to Paul Cheesbrough, CEO of Fox’s Tubi Media Group, will oversee Fox’s recently announced plans to launch a branded subscription streaming VOD platform in the fall.
Prior to joining Venu — which was earmarked by Warner Bros. Discovery, Fox and Disney as a one-stop live sports streaming app — Distad worked at Apple TV+ and Hulu.
Fox, which operates the Fox Nation SVOD service as well as ad-supported Tubi, Fox Weather and Fox International streaming platforms, has long eschewed launching a branded entertainment SVOD service. But with streaming video becoming the default entertainment distribution channel across the media universe, Fox doesn’t want to be left out.
“Pete is a proven leader with deep experience in consumer products, and we’re thrilled to have him join the team to lead this new platform,” Cheesbrough said in a statement. “His track record of innovation, execution and building world-class streaming products speaks for itself, and we’re confident that under his leadership, we will deliver a best-in-class service that showcases Fox’s premium content and brands.”
