Disney’s ‘Moana 2’ Tracks Record Pre-Thanksgiving Theatrical Revenue of $13.8 Million

Walt Disney Studios’ much-hyped Thanksgiving theatrical release, Moana 2, got off to a strong start, generating a record $13.8 million in Nov. 26 preview screenings.

Produced by Disney Television Animation, the sequel to the 2016 original, which generated more than $643 million at the global box office, Moana 2 is projected to dominate a juggernaut holiday weekend box office that includes last weekend’s breakout hits Paramount Pictures’ Gladiator II and Universal’s Wicked, which combined to sell north of $270 million in tickets worldwide.

Moana 2’s debut topped other recent Disney box office hits, including $13 million for the year’s No. 1 theatrical release Inside Out 2, 2019’s Toy Story 4 ($12 million) and Frozen 2 $8.5 million in revenue.

The movie is projected to top $225 million in worldwide ticket sales through Dec. 1, which would be almost 24% less than the $295 million opening weekend debut for Inside Out 2.
