‘Wicked’ Tops Weekly Fandango at Home Chart Through Jan. 5

Universal Pictures’ Wicked topped the chart of the 10 most-popular titles on Fandango’s transactional digital service Fandango at Home for the week ended Jan. 5.
The movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and directed by Jon Chu, was nominated for four Golden Globes, and won the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award. It became available for premium digital rental and sale Dec. 31. Meanwhile, the Wicked Premium Fan Bundle, which includes the film and an exclusive poster, landed at No. 10 on the chart.
Dropping from the top spot to No. 2 on the chart was Paramount’s Gladiator II, available for premium digital rental and sale. Director Ridley Scott’s sequel to his 2000 Best Picture Oscar winner Gladiator continues the epic saga of power, intrigue and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. He fights as a gladiator for Macrinus (Denzel Washington), a former slave who plots to overthrow the twin emperors. Meanwhile, the bundle of both “Gladiator” movies fell from No. 3 to No. 5 on the chart.
Sony Pictures’ Venom: The Last Dance dropped a spot to No. 3 on the chart. Tom Hardy returns as Venom for the final film in the trilogy, available for premium digital rental and sale. In the film, Eddie and Venom are on the run hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in.
Rising five spots to No. 4 on the chart was Universal/DreamWorks’ animated The Wild Robot, available for digital rental and sale. An adaptation of Peter Brown’s New York Times best-seller, it’s an adventure starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of Roz, a robot that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to the harsh surroundings.
