Apple TV Unveils Trailer for ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Season 2

Apple TV on Feb. 3 unveiled the season two trailer for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” the  series from Legendary Television starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto and Anders Holm.

The 10-episode second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will premiere on Feb. 27 with one episode airing every Friday until May 1.

Season one of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracked two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Colonel Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch hanging in the balance and will feature King Kong, Godzilla and introduce a new Titan, the enigmatic Titan X, that is now officially on the loose. New season guest stars will include Takehiro Hira, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper and Camilo Jiménez Varón.

Apple TV+ Renews ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ for Second Season, Inks Deal for Multiple Spin-Off Series

Apple TV+ has renewed a second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” from Legendary Entertainment, in addition to signing a new multi-series deal with Legendary for multiple spinoff series based on the monster franchise.

Following the battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down a rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and son Wyatt), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later when Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

The upcoming season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is executive produced by showrunners and co-creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, and Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.

Toho licensed the rights to Legendary Entertainment for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise.

Apple TV+ Bows ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Series Trailer at New York Comic Con

Apple TV+ and the creative team behind new series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” unveiled the trailer and shared a preview of the expansive new series over the weekend at the New York Comic Con confab.

Based on Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse — melding  interconnected stories with popular culture’s King Kong and Godzilla — the series follows a battle between Godzilla and the Titans that have leveled San Francisco, presenting city survivors with a catastrophic new reality: The monsters of our myths and legends are real.

Starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski, the 10-episode “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” premieres globally with the first two episodes on Nov. 17 on Apple TV+, followed by one episode every Friday through Jan. 12, 2024.

Legendary Entertainment began its “Monsterverse” theatrical run in 2014 with Godzilla, followed by 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. In total, the movies have generated close to $2 billion at the the global box office. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is slated for theatrical release on April 12, 2024.
