Netflix to Live-Stream 2026 MLB Season Opener Between New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants on March 25
September 25, 2025
Netflix reportedly has signed a three-year distribution deal with Major League Baseball for select games and events, including the March 25, 2026, season opener between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants, and the Home Run Derby during All-Star Week, July 10-14, 2026, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The rest of the MLB teams open their 2026 campaigns on March 26.
While neither MLB or Netflix has commented on the matter, according to The Athletic, which first reported the story, citing sources, the agreement is seen as the streamer’s first MLB agreement, and the first time the league has opened the season with a standalone game since 2015.
That’s music to Netflix’s ears. The streamer, heretofore, has shied away from pursuing full seasons of professional sports, opting instead for one-off competitions such as boxing, Christmas Day NFL games, the Women’s World Cup and now the MLB season opener.
NBCUniversal and Peacock are reportedly also eyeing three-year deals for one-off MLB events, including the Wild Card playoffs, after ESPN opted out of its exclusive distribution deal at the end of the current 2025 season.
In addition to being on Netflix, about 20 local Yankees games will live-stream on Prime Video, with the Bronx Bombers playing select nationwide games on Fox, ESPN, TNT Sports, and Apple TV+, in addition to the team’s YES regional sports network.
