In a week loaded with major new releases, Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands debuted at No. 1 on the Circana VideoScan chart, which tracks combined sales of all disc formats, and the dedicated sales chart for Blu-ray formats the week ended Feb. 21. It was also the top 4K disc seller.

The sci-fi actioner follows Dek, a young Predator outcast from his clan, who finds an unlikely ally in the android Thia (Elle Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. The film earned $91 million at the domestic box office.

No. 2 on the overall and Blu-ray Disc sales charts was another newcomer, Universal Pictures’ Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, selling about 44% as many copies as the top title. The horror sequel is set one year after the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. A new chapter of terror begins when former security guard Mike’s sister, Abby, sneaks out in search of her animatronic friends: Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. As terrifying events begin to unfold, dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s are revealed, unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades. The film earned $127.7 million at the domestic box office. HD formats accounted for 56% of first-week sales, with 33% from regular Blu-ray and 23% from 4K disc. It was No. 3 on the 4K disc chart.

The cast also includes Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt as a new team of illusionists, plus returning cast members Morgan Freeman and Lizzy Caplan. The film has earned $61.9 million at the domestic box office. HD formats accounted for 60% of first-week sales, with 35% from regular Blu-ray and 25% from 4K disc.

No. 4 overall was the newly released Sisu: Road to Revenge from Sony Pictures. The follow-up to the 2022 Finnish sleeper hit Sisu finds former commando Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila), two years after his first rampage against the Nazis, returning to the house where his family was brutally murdered during the World War II. He dismantles it and loads it onto a truck, determined to rebuild it somewhere safe in their honor. However, his plans are interrupted by the return of the Soviet officer (Stephen Lang) who killed his family, who now commands a squadron of agents determined to eliminate Aatami once and for all. It earned $4.5 million at the domestic box office. With 51% of its first-week sales coming from HD formats (42% regular Blu-ray, 9% 4K), it was the No. 5 Blu-ray and No. 12 on the 4K chart.

No. 5 on the overall disc sales chart was the 1959 Best Picture Oscar-winning epic Ben-Hur, newly released by Warner in a new 4K Ultra HD disc edition that accounted for 99% of the title’s sales for the week. Director William Wyler’s three-and-a-half-hour adaptation of Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ stars Charlton Heston as Judah Ben-Hur, whose opposition to the occupation of Judea by the Roman Empire brings him into conflict with his childhood friend Messala (Stephen Boyd). 20th Century Studios’ ‘Predator: Badlands’ Sets Franchise Opening Weekend Record With $80 Million in Global Ticket Sales

Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands set a franchise record with $80 million in opening weekend global ticket sales through Nov. 9, including $40 million across North American screens.

The sci-fi adventure movie, starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, among others, had been projected to generate about $30 million in domestic revenue. The tally bodes well for the November box office following the worst October for exhibitors in 27 years.

The 1987 original Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, tallied $98.3 million in global ticket sales, followed by Predator 2 ($57.1 million) in 1990, Predators ($127.2 million) in 2010, The Predator in 2018 with $160 million, as well as 2022’s Prey and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers in 2025, both of which debuted on Hulu.

The Badlands tally pushed Disney’s 2025 global box office past $4 billion, ahead of the December opening of 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash. The revenue still pales in comparison to pre-pandemic 2019 when Disney movies (excluding Fox) generated a record $11.1 billion in worldwide revenue.

Other new releases included Amazon MGM’s Sarah’s Oil with $4.4 million in ticket sales, followed by Sony Pictures Classics’ post-World War II Nazi trial drama Nuremberg with $4.1 million in revenue.

Meanwhile, Universal/Blumhouse’s Black Phone 2 saw another $5.3 million in fourth-weekend ticket sales, upping the Ethan Hawke-starrer’s North American tally total to 70 million — tops for any Blumhoue release in the past two years.

Sony/Crunchyroll’s anime Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc, produced by MAPPA, upped its worldwide tally to $158 million with $8.1 million globally during the weekend.

The Choral debuted in the United Kingdom with $1.2 million in ticket sales. The film follows a choral society whose male members enlist to fight in World War I, leaving the group with teenage recruits. As they discover the joy of singing together, the young men confront the looming reality of their own conscription.

Crunchyroll/Sony Pictures’ Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Infinity Castle added $1.3 million for the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to $131.2 million through Sunday.

Affirm Films’ Soul on Fire made another $1.3 million during the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to more than $5.5 million through Sunday.

Paramount Pictures’ Regretting You added an estimated $7.12 million domestically and $5.7 million internationally for a $12.8 million worldwide weekend total.

Roofman added an estimated $445,000 domestically and $30,000 in the United Kingdom for a $475,000 total weekend gross.

20th Century Studios’ ‘Predator: Badlands’ Looks to Jumpstart Weekend Box Office

Following an October box office that was the lowest in 27 years, Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ newest installment in the “Predator” sci-fi adventure franchise, Predator: Badlands, is projected to generate $30 million in North American ticket sales through Nov. 9, according to estimates from BoxOfficeReport.com.

Starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, the movie saw $4.8 million in preview ticket sales across Nov. 5-6. In 2018, The Predator opened with $24.6 million ($30.9 million today) and finished its domestic run with $51 million.

Predator: Badlands is among five new releases over the weekend, including Amazon MGM Studios’ Sarah’s Oil (projected $3 million), about black girl who finds oil on her land and becomes a millionaire at the age of 11;  MUBI’s Die My Love (projected $2.8 million), starring Jennifer Lawrence as a young mother who develops postpartum depression alongside her partner Robert Pattinson; Sony Pictures Classics’ post-World War II war crimes trial drama Nuremberg (projected $2.7 million), starring Remi Malek and Russell Crowe; and Black Bear Pictures’ Christy (projected $1.7 million), starring Sydney Sweeney as former professional boxer Christy Martin.

The last four titles will trail returning box office releases, including Paramount’s Regretting You (projected $6 million); Universal’s Black Phone 2 (projected $5.3 million); Sony/Crunchyroll’s anime Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc (projected $3.2 million); and Focus Features’ Bugonia (projected $3.1 million), according to Box OfficeReport.com.

“Four new smaller films opening in wide release will likely occupy most of the bottom half of this weekend’s top 10 chart,” analyst Daniel Garris wrote in an online post. “Sarah’s Oil may end up with the highest debut of the four films, thanks in part to opening in 2,410 locations, which is expected to be the largest location count among the four films.”
