{"id":42550,"date":"2019-07-25T13:00:47","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T20:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mediaplaynews.com\/?p=42550"},"modified":"2019-07-25T13:43:55","modified_gmt":"2019-07-25T20:43:55","slug":"wwe-network-streaming-video-subscriber-loss-expands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mediaplaynews.com\/wwe-network-streaming-video-subscriber-loss-expands\/","title":{"rendered":"WWE Network Streaming Video Subscriber Loss Expands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) July 25 disclosed that its branded subscription streaming video service, WWE Network, ended the second quarter (ended June 30) with 1.69 million subscribers, which was down 6% from 1.79 million subs during the previous-year period.<\/p>\n<p>WWE expects subscriptions of the $9.95 monthly service in the current third quarter to drop nearly 10% to 1.53 million, or 8% year-over-year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the actual and projected subscriber declines, the company does not expect to achieve record subscribers for the full [fiscal] year,\u201d WWE said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaplaynews.com\/wwe-network-streaming-video-subscriber-loss-expands\/20170817_networkupdatenow-34daeb1c3becfae6185ba4df5248b0ed\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42551\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-42551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediaplaynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/20170817_Networkupdatenow-34daeb1c3becfae6185ba4df5248b0ed-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>During the quarter, WWE said it made progress on \u201ccritical strategic initiatives,\u201d which included completing content distribution agreements in key international markets and developing the foundation for the next iteration of WWE Network.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the company completed content distribution agreements with BT Sport in the U.K., Fox Sports in Latin America and PP Sports in China.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaplaynews.com\/subscribe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Subscribe HERE to the FREE\u00a0<em>Media Play News<\/em>\u00a0Daily Newsletter!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WWE contends these partners will help it reach its fan base on a global basis.
