‘Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip’ Tops Lower Netflix Weekly Viewership Charts Due to the Winter Olympics

With the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics dominating the television and streaming space, Netflix saw global viewership for its top streamed content drop almost 50% for the week ended Feb. 15.

The latest “Madea” movie franchise release, Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip, ranked No. 1 overall and on the English-language movie chart with 12.5 million views worldwide, making it the biggest opening for a comedy film on Netflix this year.

Perry wrote, directed, produced and stars in the film. He plays cantankerous brother Joe, who takes his grandson B.J. (Jermaine Harris) on a cross-country trek to visit a prospective college, giving him much-needed lessons in Black history along the way.

The movie’s viewership lagged behind the previous week’s No. 1,  the fourth season of “Bridgerton,” with more than 23 million views, and about 25% of the three previous weeks’ No.1 titles, including “Bridgerton” and the heist actioner The Rip with 40 million views each.

Season four of “The Lincoln Lawyer” took No. 1 on the English-language TV chart with 9.6 million views. The series continues to showcase the city of Los Angeles, highlighting landmarks and famed restaurants and utilizing a local cast and crew when filming.

At No. 1 on the foreign-language TV chart was the German thriller “Unfamiliar,” a spy series starring Felix Kramer and Susanne Wolff as spouses and former spies running a safe house in Berlin.

The Brazilian actioner State of Fear landed at No. 1 on the foreign-language movie chart with 8 million views. The follow-up to the popular Brazilian crime series “Brotherhood” stars Naruna Costa as a lawyer whose niece (Camilla Damião) is kidnapped by cops looking to ransom the daughter of a criminal gang’s founder.

Meanwhile, the fourth season of “Bridgerton” continued to resonate with streamers, finishing at No. 2 on the English-language TV chart with 9.4 million views. Season one ranked No. 10 with 1.9 million views, and season three was No. 9 with 2.2 million views.

The true crime documentary The Investigation of Lucy Letby ranked No. 2 on the English-language movie chart with 6.6 million views. The doc showcases the 2018 case of the neonatal nurse charged with the murder of seven infant patients in the United Kingdom

The stand-up comedy show “Katt Williams: The Last Report” finished at No. 4 on the English-language TV chart with 7.1 million views. The comedian’s latest special puts his unfiltered, provocative style of stand-up front and center as he reflects on how he’s not made for farm life and what all evil men have in common.

The first six episodes of “Love Is Blind: Ohio” ranked No. 5 with 4.6 million views. In the 10th season of the dating reality show, singletons from the Buckeye State begin their own love stories in the “pods,” meeting each other in person only after getting engaged.

The Polish limited series”Lead Children” launched at No. 2 on the foreign-language TV chart with 4.2 million views. Inspired by true events from the 1970s, the drama follows a young doctor (Joanna Kulig) trying to save children living near a toxic steel plant who are suffering from lead poisoning caused by heavy metal contamination.

The Mexican drama A Father’s Miracle bowed at No. 2 on the foreign-language movie chart with 7.3 million views. Omar Chaparro stars in the film as a devoted father who’s wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, leaving his daughter to fend for herself as he fights to prove his innocence.
