November 30, 2024
Disney’s much-hyped animated sequel Moana 2 is projected to generate $207 million in ticket sales across the five-day Thanksgiving week, ending Dec. 1, following a record Tuesday screening revenue of $13.8 million. The movie is expected to generate $126 million in revenue across the three-day weekend, according to new data from BoxOfficeReport.com.
Separate reports suggest the movie’s five-day tally could increase up to $220 million following a record Black Friday haul of $54.5 million.
The tallies would easily surpass previous Turkey Day week box office record holder Frozen, which generated $67.39 million and $93.59 million across the three-day and five-day periods in 2013.
Meanwhile, Moana 2 should easily surpass the previous weekend’s theatrical chart toppers, Universal Pictures’ Wizard of Oz prequel Wicked and Paramount Pictures’ Gladiator II. The latter two movies are projected to generate $67.5 million and $31.5 million in ticket sales, respectively.
Rounding out the weekend movie slate are Amazon MGM Studios’ Xmas actioner Red One with $11 million in ticket sales, upping its three weekend tally near $73 million, in addition to three-day and five-day holiday grosses of $3 million and $4.3 million for Lionsgate’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, $2.4 million and $3.4 million for Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance, and $2.3 million and $3.4 million for Angel Studios’ Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin.
